WebSocket Time Series service (WSTS) is a Kaa service that enables client to listen to time series data for certain endpoints using WebSocket connection.

WSTS supports a number of interfaces to perform its functional role. The key supported interfaces are summarized in the following diagram.

WSTS interfaces diagram

For inter-service communication, Kaa services mainly use REST APIs and messaging protocols that run over NATS messaging system.

Time series monitoring

WSTS clients (e.g., web browsers) initiate WebSocket connections (sessions) and subscribe to a number of time series. WSTS then publishes data points to these sessions.

You can configure which time series the clients are subscribed to by using data point filters. For example, you can filter data points by name, endpoint ID, and tags. For more information, see WebSocket API.

Time series streaming

WSTS acts as a time series data receiver as per 14/TSTP and listens for time series data points from data point transmitter.
